Do I need a NAHRA member number for my dog to run in a NAHRA Field Test?
No, your dog can run in a field test without a NAHRA member number. You will, however, have to pay the non-member field test cost. NAHRA members normally get a 'discounted' cost per test; your membership fees can be recouped by your savings from only 8 field tests.
Do I need a Field Test Number (FTN)? How can I get one?
Basically, the FTN is required for all non-registered dogs, mixed breed dogs and dogs that are not recognized by NAHRA as a hunting retriever. A dog with a FTN is eligible to run NAHRA tests and to be awarded ribbons for passing tests, but it is not eligible to earn NAHRA titles.
You WILL NOT need a FTN to participate in a NAHRA field test if:
a) Your dog is a purebred from one of the following breeds - Labrador Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Golden Retriever, Curly-Coated Retriever, Flat-Coated Retriever, Irish Water Spaniel, Boykin Spaniel, American Water Spaniel, English Springer Spaniel, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or Poodle, AND...
b) Your dog is registered as a purebred with the American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club, Boykin Spaniel Society, American Field Dog Stud Book, or other approved registries
You WILL need a Field Test Number (FTN) to participate in a NAHRA field test if either one of the following is true of your dog:
a) your dog is not a purebred from one of the retrieving breeds listed above, OR...
b) your dog is not registered as a purebred with one of the registries listed above
You can get a FTN number by downloading a Field Test Number (FTN) application and faxing/mailing it to NAHRA HQ along with your credit card information. NAHRA's fax number is 540-286-0629. Voice phone number is 540-286-0625. For mailings: NAHRA, P.O. Box 5159, Fredericksburg, VA 22403
How do I send my dog's registration to NAHRA?
Did you receive a letter from NAHRA asking for a copy of your dogs' registration? You can fax it back to NAHRA at 540-286-0629. You must have a copy of your dog's registration on file with NAHRA in order to be issued a certificate.
How do I find out how many points my dog has?
You will need to call the NAHRA office (540-286-0625). Have your dogs' registration number handy - it makes it easier to find in the database.
When does the NAHRA Judges list come out?
New Judge lists are issued twice a year, once in January and once in July. If you are a judge, make sure your dues are current if you want to be included in the listing.
How long a wait for a retest after a failed Judges test?
If you fail the judges test, you must wait 6 months to take it again.
Can an individual be expelled from NAHRA tests?
Individuals CAN be expelled from participating in NAHRA field tests for rude, unsportsmanlike conduct, and foul language. The decision is up to the discretion of the judges and the field test committee.
Where can our club get field test ribbons?
Clubs can obtain field test ribbons from any awards supplier that has the camo ribbon available. NAHRA headquarters has used two suppliers: Hodges Badge in RI, 800-556-2440 and R.B. Powers in Ohio, 740-747-2121.
There are numerous field dog breeders available. Check with your local club or read posts on the NAHRA PUP bulletin board.
